Escape

Escape is an installation done in the lobby of University Center at The New School, NYC in 2015. A projection mapped hole that goes through 2 floors of the building and projects the outside through live camera feeds on each floor, thereby subverting the perception of space.

Architecturally, the lobby space was inspired from nature, specifically to recreate the experience of sitting on a hill. The cafeteria/seating area feels like a valley and stairs feel like a slope when observed from the lobby. So in an effort to bring the outside inside and support this historical architectural design choice, we projection mapped a hole that goes through 2 floors of the building and projects the outside through live camera feeds on each floor.

Collaboration with Eric Jiang and Vicky Yadid.
